Call for Light Art for the new 2020 LUSIO Lights Pioneer Square program produced in collaboration by the Alliance for Pioneer Square and LUSIO, with funding from Historic South Downtown. 

In an effort to support local artists and to bring joy to the public with art of light during the darkest months of the year, the Alliance for Pioneer Square and LUSIO are seeking artists or artist groups to exhibit public light art in Pioneer Square. 

The Alliance for Pioneer Square works to help preserve what makes Pioneer Square the most authentic, engaging and dynamic neighborhood in Seattle. LUSIO’s mission is to build community wellbeing and inspiration by creating opportunities for local artists to exhibit the art of light in public spaces. This collaboration will combine the historic Pioneer Square with the art of light to create a public walking art experience that is COVID safe and brings awareness to local businesses and historic spaces. 

The Program is set to begin December 1st and run for 45 days with the potential for an extended exhibit at select locations. 


  • Call for Art is open Oct 18th - Nov 4th 2020

  • Selected Artists will be notified the first week of November, 2020

  • Artists may be contacted for more information or an interview prior to acceptance

  • Artist site visits will be scheduled mid November, 2020

  • Exhibit installations will be scheduled the last week of November, 2020 to begin exhibitions on Dec 1st, 2020. 

Details, requirements and eligibility


  • Exhibit(s) will be placed in window storefronts of participating businesses/properties and/or at a few select outdoor locations in Pioneer Square. 

  • Outdoor Exhibit(s) must be either weather proof and/or created to withstand or comply with nature for at least 30 days. Solar Powered or “okay to decay” art is encouraged.

  • Power may be able to be provided depending on the locations and exhibit requirements.  

  • Outdoor Exhibit(s) will be installed out of easy reach of the public ie; higher than 10 feet, attached securely and safely with both the general public and flora taken into account.

  • Exhibit(s) will be installed by Artist(s) and their team end of November with the supervision of curator Mollie Bryan and in collaboration with the participating businesses. 

  • All art, artist time and installation equipment is included in the artist stipend.

  • Art to be removed by the artist(s) January 10th, 2021 thru February 15th, 2021 - exact removal dates TBD. 

  • Artist Stipends are available between $200.00- $1500.00 to be paid to the artist(s) within 30 days after installation. 

  • Eligibility: This is a call open to artists ages 18+ living within the PNW area. Artists outside of the PNW area may apply, but must be available during the entire program for site visits, install, any needed maintenance of the art during the exhibit, and removal or art. Artists who live or work in Pioneer Square are encouraged to apply.

  • Artists must be aware that their art may be vandalized, stolen, or altered depending on exhibit placement.
